Title: RUNNING WITH THE STAGS
The
Stags are a new and upcoming band from Liverpool. There are 4 male members of
the band. The members of the band are so
talented and all were willing to speak with me exclusively for my magazine.
They are a very indie band and were dressed in black clothes and denim jackets.
‘The Stags’ are trying to break through in the music industry by playing as
many gigs as they can, to try and get their name out there.
“We have been a band since June 2015, which is about
eighteen months. We realised we could all sing well together and just went for
it”.
What inspired you to become a
band?
“Two of us shared a house at university and a mutual friend
introduced us to James and Matt. We hung out for a while and overtime we
realised that we sounded good together and decided to make a go of things”.
How long have you been
performing live?
“We started performing at the student union bar at first in
September 2015. Since then it progressed to clubs and other venues and gigs”.
When and why did you start
playing music?
“We were all musical in some way. James is a very gifted
writer as well as singer. Matt, Jake and I all played instruments and were
quite good singers so it just happened naturally. I think it was important that
we were all friends first before becoming colleagues”.
How often did you practise as
a band?
“We are always together so we tend to sing at some point
every day. James is always playing his guitar too so we all get involved even
if we don’t mean to”.
What has been the biggest
obstacle you have faced as a band so far?
“Getting our name known without this you struggle to get
gigs- we have been lucky once we started people just liked what we did so we
got all of our booking through word of mouth and previous gigs”.
What are your plans for your
career in the future?
Hopefully our demo CD that we have just completed will be
picked up at one of the recording studios and we can maybe become recording
artists, as from we have experienced so far is the best feeling ever”.
Have you ever competed as a
band, e.g. battle of the bands?
“We have actually, we competed in a battle at university
which we were lucky enough to win and we then went head to head with other uni
winners from around the country. We came 5th out of 63 bands”.
What advice would you give to
someone wanting to make it in the music industry?
“I would say be prepared for the knock backs and rejection;
that is completely normal at first for, say if you are performing to a crowd of
6 people and nobody is taking notice of you. Don’t be put off, just keep going
and hopefully your break will come. Also, most importantly just stay true to
yourself”.
